Well, this week started off with good news!
I got a message from my midwife that I was low risk after waiting forever (ten days) to hear back about the combined screening results. The doctors looked at me sideways when I said what I was there for, but I didn’t want to leave anything to chance. They had all said that I was low risk simply because of my age, medical history, and overall health. They asked the same questions about my ex and I told them what I could. After hearing that, they automatically classified me as ‘low risk’, but I wanted to be 100% sure. I did stress myself out for no reason, but I’m glad I did it. After all, I got to see my baby again and that is something I will never get sick of.
We get screenings done at twelve and twenty weeks in New Zealand, with the twelve week screening being optional. I was single by the time I hit the twelve week mark, so I was determined to be as prepared as possible. I wanted and needed to know everything I could possibly know.
This occasionally leads to the odd Google search and we all know how I recommended against that. This screening, whilst initially stressful, definitely helped with knowing that everything was okay (as far as they could tell) in there. Phew.
All in all, week twelve was probably one of the best weeks of my pregnancy to date. If I could relive it over and over, I would.
