I know that it has been a long time since I’ve written one of these posts. A post that was more journal entry than anything else. I want to remember what has gone on throughout the months, so I’m bringing these posts back. Better late than never, right? 😉
From what I can remember, January was a fairly boring month.
I was working full-time and trying to complete a college course at the same time. I was working, working, working with no break. It was hard. I was working seven days a week, driving up and down the coast, and trying to have enough energy to study too. Guys, I think it almost killed me.
I was stressed.
I was tired.
I was annoyed.
I was constantly chasing my tail.
Don’t get me wrong, I loved my job and I loved studying. I just needed a few more hours in the day. You know, to nap 😉
I worked as a merchandiser, so I got to drive from Coromandel to Hahei every day. In fact, I drove through to Coromandel, Kuaotunu, Whitianga, Hahei, Hot Water Beach, and Cooks Beach every day. I covered 200km of coastline every day. If you followed me on Twitter, Instagram, or Snapchat (xkendelvictoria) then you would have seen photos that I constantly uploaded. It definitely wasn’t a bad place to spend the summer.
As for college, I was completing a linguistics paper, which covered the link between language and culture. It was fascinating. It had me researching how different cultures socialized their children to become functioning members of society. It had me interviewing foreigners so I could compare their language and culture to others. I thought I knew a lot about the language/culture ‘link’, but this paper showed me how little I knew. Yes, my hunches were right, but I had no real evidence or reasoning to back it up. I also forgot how much I liked studying linguistics before this summer. Part of me had actually missed it. What a proper college nerd 😉
So, what did I do for New Years?
I went to my sister’s house with a few friends and we watched movies. One very long movie. It got to 11.45pm and I thought: ‘I got this. I can last until midnight.’ that was about one minute before I fell asleep. I got woken up at 1am by my sister. Whoops. I really know how to party, don’t you agree?
That – more or less – was my month.
