8 Things Single Girls Should Do on Valentine’s Day

I had grand plans for this blog over the last week or so. I had blog posts planned out. I had images created. I had titles written. So, what happened?

Life happened.

I had coffee with someone and he made me lose faith in humanity. Just a little bit. I’ve been studying. I’ve been going on runs (cough, walks). I’ve been working. I’ve been catching up with friends. Like I said, life happened.

Well, as it turns out, I miss my little place on the interwebs. So, here I am, about to share a post that was supposed to go up around Valentine’s Day (with a few modifications). Whoops.

The Single Girl's Guide to Valentine's Day-2

I’m single. (Big shocker there!) So, what did I do on Valentine’s Day?

I woke up. I studied. I drank too much coffee and ate too much chocolate. I went for a walk. I started chatting to someone on a dating site (really). I ate some more chocolate and went to sleep.

Nothing too outrageous and nothing too out of the norm either.

TREAT YOURSELF

Have a spa day. Read that book. Go on a road trip. Buy that coffee, add an extra shot and flavouring, because why not? It’s Valentine’s Day. You can bet that couples are doing fun things all day long, so why not do something fun too? Valentine’s Day is for single people, too!

GET OFF SOCIAL MEDIA

This is something I forgot to do until the middle of the day. I was absolutely bombarded with tweets and photos of couples celebrating their love. On one hand, I really didn’t mind it. I thought the photos were sweet…for the most part. On the other hand, it got really annoying to have someone else’s love shoved in your face. Tip: If you’re in the Northern Hemisphere then avoid social media the day before and the day of Valentine’s Day. If you’re in the Southern Hemisphere then avoid social media on Valentine’s Day and the day after.

GIRLS NIGHT IN (OR OUT)

If you are like me, then you don’t have a whole lot of single (girl) friends. I think I can count on one hand (maybe two) the amount of single people who are in my circle of friends. I am that single girl. Always…and I am 100% okay with it. Most single people are. Round up all your single friends and organise a night in! Movies, chocolate, alcohol, gossip, and pizza. Organise a night out! Movies, chocolate, alcohol, gossip, and pizza in a public place.

GO ON A DATE

Stop crying and do something about being single. Who wouldn’t want to go on a date on the “most romantic day of the year”? If you think it’s too cliché then please refer to the first idea and date yourself. Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be a sad event for single people. Go out and have fun! Why should you have to stay at home and avoid everyone just because you don’t have a boyfriend/girlfriend?

HANG WITH THE FAMILY

If all else fails, there will always be family. Right? 😉 Ha. I say that with all sincerity. I have no issues with seeing my family. No matter what the day is. If no one else has your back, then your family will (probably). Go do something awesome with (or for) them.

ATTACK YOUR TO-DO LIST

I know you have one. Don’t say you’re “too busy” on Valentine’s Day to do anything productive. You’re single. Embrace it. Be independent. No one likes a hanger on. (If you’re a male and like this trait then please explain why you like it.) Don’t waste a day feeling sorry for yourself. Don’t let Valentine’s Day and the sickly sweet in love couples win.

BUY YOURSELF FLOWERS

I kept driving past a stall that had roses. Beautiful bunches of roses that were only $5 a pop. I made the rookie mistake of leaving it to the last minute to decide to get myself some. It was too late. They were all gone. Who says you need to wait for a man to buy you flowers on Valentine’s Day? Girl – treat yourself! You deserve flowers. Don’t wait for someone to buy you some. Get them yourself.

SLEEP

Okay, nothing else has worked. I understand. Just go to sleep. It’ll be a new day before you know it.

  1. I love this! I meant to do my own post similar to this, but where I actually did things that I love, but I ended up getting sucked into Netlifx haha, which I was totally okay with 🙂

  2. I have always been single on Valentine’s Day minus one. I used to buy myself flowers, go watch a movie, buy dinner and enjoy the day. All my friends are married with children or in a committed relationship. I’m not. I used to stress over not being in their crowd. However I am absolutely okay with the fact I never will be. Love the post girl.

    1. I’ve always been single (except one) too! That sounds like a lovely way to spend the day. I’m the single one out of all my friends too. Some are getting married, some are moving in together and another set just got a house. It is INSANE, but I am okay with just being by myself 🙂 Thanks! I’m glad you liked it 🙂
