I’m typing this from the cold side of my bed. Why?
The cat decided that it would be a good idea to sit under my window and meow until I let him into the house. At 5am. He then proceeded to climb all over my bed, knock things to the ground, and stole my side of the bed when I got up to make coffee. Cheeky devil. He’s just lucky that he’s cute.
Christmas is today. This is something that I’m still trying to wrap my head around. It just doesn’t feel like Christmas this year. I don’t know why, but something just feels different. Maybe it’s because there aren’t any young family members around this year. Maybe I’m just getting old.
We didn’t get the Christmas tree up until yesterday afternoon. I came home from work to find Christmas decorations scattered around the lounge and my mother stating that we have too many. Yes…because someone (hint: her) is obsessed with Christmas. My mother is the type to have the Christmas tree up in the first week of December and to be playing carols well into January.
Christmas traditions and trees aside, the day is finally here.
We’re having a family breakfast of eggs benedict (at my request) with champagne, fruit and other delicious goodies. The day is extra special today because my family is spending it with three French people who are travelling New Zealand. They’re staying at our house and working for food and rent. It’s finally time to show them how we do Christmas the Kiwi way.
(Keeping in mind that three years ago I was drunk by lunchtime and swimming in the ocean.)
I just wanted to pop online to say “Hi” and “Merry Christmas!” before going to spend some extra snuggle time with the cat. He finally wants cuddles from me, so I’m going to capitalise on this while he’s all sleepy and cute.
Merry Christmas! I hope you all have a lovely day with friends and family. If you don’t celebrate Christmas, I hope you enjoy some well deserved rest and relaxation! 🙂
