The girl who says that she’s going to participate in a blog challenge and then disappears off the face of the earth?
AKA goes off on a blogging tangent and does the complete opposite. Yeah, I’m still here. Still writing. Still posting annoying things on Twitter. You know, real life stuff. Never will you ever see me post a Facebook status, but I will tweet like there is no tomorrow.
I do like following prompts. Sometimes. Now is one of those times, so I’m going to give this a proper go.
Day Six: Share your style. What fashion trends do you love, frequent, or avoid?
The collage shows the clothes I am most confident in. I don’t know why, but slipping into those outfits gives me a little extra ‘pep’ in my step. They’re also the clothes that makes sure I don’t ‘half-ass’ my appearance AKA I actually make time to put on makeup and do my hair in the morning/afternoon.
That being said, I’m definitely not a fashion person. At all. I will fight tooth and nail when it comes to clothes shopping. It is definitely one of those ‘if I really have to go’ occasions. I will quite happily wear things for three years in a row if I can still fit them/like them. I don’t follow trends. Ever.
Ironically, I have found a ‘style’ or trend that I absolutely love.
You can eat as much as you want and the top stays flattering. How brilliant is that? I find it does the same when you drink alcohol. People wanted to know why I always chose peplum tops to pair with skirts. Well, now you know why. No obviously bloated photos for me!
Cut out dresses/split skirts.
I don’t even know what to call them, so I’m making it up as I go along. Ha. I have a dress that has a panel of cutouts and while I haven’t worn it in a while (damn you, winter!) I do love it. I can promise you that I’ll be wearing it to death during summer. I also have a few skirts that have mid-high thigh splits in them (see pictured). The second skirt I own has two splits running up both my thighs and has a black/white pattern on it. They’re pretty rad.
I’m not 100% sure if this is a “trend”, but I do love my blazer (jacket, thing, whatever). I started teaming it with stuff over summer/winter and I have rediscovered my obsession. Even if I am a bit late.
This is also how I dress. Probably about 70% of the time. Part of me wishes that I was kidding, but part of me also isn’t ashamed of this fact. Leggings/pants and baggy jumpers are my ‘goodness, I am late but I really want to be at this class’ outfit. You can usually tell how dedicated I am to a class by how I dress.
If I’m really “dressed up” then I definitely didn’t want to leave the house, but I wanted someone to see that I had made an effort. If I’m wearing baggy jumpers and leggings then you know that I wanted to be at the class, but didn’t have the time to get ready “properly”. Basically, dressing up nicely is my form of procrastination.
I went to NZFW, but I can honestly say that I didn’t know one person or designer there. I had no idea what was going on. The event itself was awesome, but I probably would have appreciated it a bit more if I had a love for fashion…which I do not. Am I a girl or not? 😉
Kidding, I know being a female and a love of clothes is not mutually exclusive.
So, all in all, I can say that I have absolutely no fashion sense and it is probably a miracle if I can find a pair of matching socks in the morning 😉 I wish I was kidding.
What are some trends that you like? Have you ever gone to a fashion event?
Bailey Jean from Brave Love is the creator of the #blogtemberchallenge (and link-up). She has come up with some rad prompts for the month of September and all of you should definitely join up! You can do one, a handful or all of them. All I say is that you just try one and see how you like it. All of us write on the internet for fun (or as a full-time job), so why not have a little (more) fun with it and meet (more) rad people along the way?
