My Place.

I have talked and talked and talked about going to the beach to visit my friends and family but I don’t think I have posted many photos of the place. Isn’t that awful? Well, last time I visited my mum, I took a bunch of photos…Right before I lost my camera. Inconvenient would be an understatement. I was just getting into photography again and then poof, it disappears right before my eyes. Isn’t that always the way?

I’m sitting in my room in the city and the grey clouds have well and truly rolled in, bringing an unwelcome drizzle with them. This was not on my agenda for the day. I was going to be productive. I was going to go to the gym after skipping goodness knows how many days weeks. Opps. I actually got an email from my gym telling me the exact date of my last workout in their sacred grounds. Whoopsie. So, after that naming and shaming email, I had gotten my ass out of bed and prepared to go to the gym…until I looked outside. No deal…and here I am instead; writing this blog post and planning a workout at home. I’ve gotten really into tabata workouts. They are killer.

Looking out the window (again) I long for summer. I long for the moments where I can exercise outside and I know it won’t start pouring down. I long for the walks on the beach. I long for the beautiful sunsets that reflect in the ocean. I long for the salty sea air. I long for meeting new people from all corners of the world.

So, I’ve decided to share a bit of my summer world with you today.

beach-front-walk

As you walk down the steps, this is the first view of the beach; a picture of never-ending waves and sand. Those stairs, whilst they aren’t steep, they still create a decent workout if you’ve been running on the beach or playing in the water. One day I’m going to create a workout solely based on those steps. That will also be the day I die. Ha.

wooWhy not dip your toes in the water? Maybe it’ll be warmer today…or maybe it won’t be. You never know until you try. Even if it’s too cold, why not appreciate the beauty? It seems like the ocean expands forever and ever as you stand on the water’s edge.

right-view-beachIf you look right (on a good day) you’ll see something like this. Don’t be deceived by the outcrop, it’s further way than you would think. I’m yet to discover what is around the corner but mark my words, it will happen one day soon AKA I will go on an adventure in summer and report back ;]

morning-time-beachIf you wake up early enough in the morning, you’ll be greeted by this. Beautiful…and so worth the early morning.

wooLet’s walk this way, shall we?

bridge-wooWell, I walk on the beach in sneakers…which is not very conductive for the massive river that flows out to the ocean. Ha. Walking around a path and across a bridge, you’ll get to see something like this. All beautiful and reflective, don’t ya think?

plants-woo-natureAnd even though we’re on a beach, sometimes you just have to take the time to treasure the greenery. Clean and green New Zealand, remember ;] We’re quite proud of that.

second-beachIf you have kept up with me then we’ll end up walking across a boat ramp and end up on the second part of the beach. It really is beautiful.

After walking all the way to the other end of the beach you have the option of fuelling up with the best pizza ever, walking over to the next bay or simply turning around and heading home.

steps-wooOne hike up the stairs of doom and you’ll be home free.

I do love the hustle and bustle of the city, don’t get me wrong, but sometimes I just need to escape. I need to get away from the rat race and just be. I have never visited a more relaxing place in my whole life and I am so privileged to be able to call this place my home in summer. It is beautiful, truly.

  1. What a gorgeous place. I absolutely loved looking at those photos– it’s hard to believe that it’s not summer there— I’ve always connected the beach with summer. The fact that your seasons are slightly different than mine still seem to amaze me XD The photos are absolutely breathtaking– some day I want to visit there (: (Maybe we can organize a coffee/tea date when/if that happens? (; ) Thanks so much for sharing your little slice of paradise!
