Featured on Friday: The Sushi Box

Good morning ladies and gents! On this glorious day {Valentine’s Day} I am giving you my first attempt at a new feature. Pretty sweet gift, right? This is going to be happening every/every second Friday of the month and it’ll be a way to showcase some of my favorite blogs. I hope you like them as much as I do. That’s all my rambling done for now. I’ll leave you in the very capable hands of Jess.

1) What is your blog about and why did you start blogging?
The Sushi Box is pretty much my own little space on the internet. I mostly blog about my life, whatever comes into my mind, and I like to share reviews about products/services to people. I started blogging back in the 6th grade just to document my life, and as the years went on, it grew into a hobby and eventually an outlet to share my thoughts, opinions, rants, and pretty much anything I want to share. Like I said, it’s just my own little place on the internet! 😀

2) What are the best and worst things about blogging?
The best thing about blogging is getting things off your mind and meeting new people (like Kendel!). The worst thing about blogging is having this fear of family/friends/co-workers/employers potentially finding your blog. I’ve had friends, and school counsellors coming across my blog in the past so when I started The Sushi Box, I did everything I can to keep this as private as possibly and even off Google if anyone searched for me.

3) What’s the best or worst date you’ve ever been on?
I forgot the boy’s name, but we met when I was working and he was friends with one of my co-workers. We went to an Indian restaurant and casually talked. His stories weren’t interesting, and I just found this guy to be quite dull. When we were leaving, he also did a horriblehorrible impression of a celebrity and tried to laugh it off. He asked if I wanted to continue hanging out, but I felt so… uncomfortable with him so I lied about the stack of homework I have at home. Later on that night, I got an unfamiliar name popping up on my phone and it turned to be the guy calling from the house phone. I got so uncomfortable and creeped out because he was calling to talk at night ALREADY, just after one date?! I left for a vacation but was still in the country so he actually ended up calling me long distance too which really annoyed me. I eventually ignored him and he Facebook messaged me saying something along the lines of, “Okay, I get it, you’re not interested in me but you don’t have to ignore me.” Awkward….

4) Three of your favorite blogs.
Does Kendel’s blog count? I remember stumbling across this back on WordPress and I was so captivated by how raw and genuine Kendel is, and I realized, not many bloggers are like that anymore. So many bloggers have a facade so I love Kendel’s blog because it’s so genuine. And, bonus, we have so (sooooooo!) much in common!

But my top three are:
1. Michelle at Mish Lovin Life. I love Michelle’s writing and comedic humour. Not to mention her adorable photos of her and The Dizzle.. so cute!
2. Melissa at Making Melissa. As a Canadian, you get bonus points if I see another Canadian blogger, haha. I only started following Melissa a few days ago but I’ve been reading her entries like a novel. I don’t know why but there’s something about her entries that makes me come back wanting more.
3. Areeba at I Have a Messy Bun. She’s so cute and funny! I love her blog designs and her funny non-sense blog entries about her daily life.

5) What would you be doing right now if age/experience/time/money was not an issue?

I want to travel the world. I think it’s the most cliché answer but definitely draw out the most extensive plan to visit all these cities around the world.

6) A piece of advice about blogging.

Blog for yourself. There’s a difference between running a blog for business and having a personal blog. As a personal blogger, I blog whatever I want and not to be rude, but I don’t care if readers don’t like what they read. When I blog, I blog to share my experiences, my thoughts and emotions. I don’t want to blog about ten thousand lipstick shades when I’m not a make-up guru just to get 200 followers. It’s nice to have comments and a pretty layout but ultimately, blogging is just a way to express yourself – so don’t force yourself to blog about something you don’t want to, but don’t let your readers hold you back from what you truly want to share on your blog.

PS: If you’re one to share your blog to everyone and potential employers, keep it clean!

7) One random fact/secret about you.
I can’t believe I’m about to say this, but I used to be one of those kids that peed in the pool. When I was a kid, my Dad signed me up for swimming lessons. I’d pee at home before heading out but once I have my bathing suit on, I feel extremely uncomfortable stripping half-naked before a toilet to pee so that’s why I try my best to let it all out at home. Sometimes, during the 90 mins long lessons, I’d just let out in the pool. I didn’t think it was a big problem because it’s a pool full of water and chlorine but when my Dad found out, he scolded me and told me to do it anymore.. so don’t worry, I haven’t peed in a pool since!
