There’s something sort of beautiful about being awake before the sun is. You get to bask in the stillness of the new day; listen to the world whilst at its most fragile moment. A calmness that is not yet disturbed by alarms and phones, by cars and people running to catch the last bus or train.
In the stillness of the morning you hear the crickets chirping, you hear the waves rolling in and greeting the shore, you hear the movement of a cat stretching into a more comfortable position.
You witness the one moment when even the most evil of people are cloaked in the safety of their dreams.
You witness the one moment when the world is being born into a new day.
You witness the one moment when the rays of light kiss the earth for the first time, whispering a promise of hope and new adventure.
You witness the one moment when you could hear a pin drop.
You witness the one moment of how the world used to be; before the technology, before the rat race, before we decided this simplicity wasn’t enough for us.
You witness the one moment of utter peace.
You witness the one moment that echoes in the distant hope that maybe, just maybe, today is going to be a good day.
Sitting here – in my room with my cat huddled against me – I feel like everything is right with the world. This stillness and peace – it fills you up. There are no worries. There is no stress. At this very moment it is just me, welcoming the start of a new day. And you know what?
It’s going to be a good one.
